Preparations & Expectations

Welcome again to my blog! I will be posting inner and outer journey posts throughout our week in New Orleans. These posts will give you, my readers, a descriptive way to follow along on our journey! This is my first of many inner journey posts.

I have been to multiple states and cities in the U.S., but New Orleans, Louisiana has not been one of the yet! That is going to change on January second, 2019. It feels weird to say 2019, doesn't it? It is coming fast and what a way to start it out except in the melting pot of the United States of America! I do not know what to expect, but I have some ideas. This course, Humanities 302, seems like it is going to be pretty straight forward. We go to New Orleans, see, taste, smell, feel, and hear some awesome stuff, blog about it so everyone at home can have a part of the experience, and come home with some awesome stories. Off the top of my head, I cannot think of a better class to take. I have been across the country on a train once, and to say the least, it could have been a better experience. I am confident that this trip across the country on a train will be more enjoyable.

After doing the research I have done on a few of the neighborhoods in New Orleans, I am excited to see the city and everything that it holds! I had always associated New Orleans with Mardi Gras and that was it. Now it looks like an opportunity for some exciting experiences. I am not going to lie, originally, I wanted to take this class and go on this trip because it looked like an easy way to get an A without having to sit in a classroom for 16 weeks. However, this class is looking like it is going to be so much more. Not only do we not have to sit in a class for 16 weeks, but we get to see a marvelous city, eat amazing food, and do it all in the company of great friends. I am sure everyone has their own reasons for wanting to go on this trip, but one of mine is being immersed in a new culture!!

I want to experience a culture unlike any other, or better yet, cultures unlike any other all in the same spot at the same time. I think that New Orleans is the place to do so. I am not very good outside of my comfort zone and am a homebody, so this could be interesting. I want to learn about each culture to a certain extent but also, I want to see them in action! Reading about cultures in a book is one thing but experiencing them first hand is something entirely different. I am looking forward to a lot of things on this trip, including seeing the city of New Orleans in person with some great friends, but the thing I am most excited about is to ride the street car! I have always wanted to ride in a trolly!

Stay tuned for daily posts while we are gone!!
