Art in New Orleans

Louis Armstrong, painted by Aaron Reichert
New Orleans is full of Art. One of my favorite artists that I saw the work of is a man by the name of Aaron Reichert. He was born and raised in Michigan but moved down the Mississippi to New Orleans to become a movie star. Even though he was born in another state, the people of New Orleans consider him a local. Art started out as more of a hobby to him, but it ended up being so much more. He studied film and television, but even as a child he would make portraits of his favorite stars. His art is a one of a kind. He was inspired by old black and white pictures, especially of people. All of his paintings are in black and white, and he pretty much only does faces. The manager at the Angela King Gallery, where we found his art, was gracious enough to talk to us about his art and techniques. He paints with oil paints and uses a pallet knife to create the texture and detail of his portraits. His art is unique because he only uses black and white oils and his art has a different story depending on how close you are to it. If you stand back, you see a face, but the closer you get, you can see the paints jumping off the canvas creating its own abstract story. He created these work so that no matter which 4 by 4 section you look it, it is unique and so beautiful that you could hang it on your wall. The only problem with the photos I have retrieved from the Angela King Gallery Website is that you do not get to enjoy the texture and detail as I did in person. Aaron Reichert is very unique painter and I found his work fascinating! Click here or on the caption of either of the pictures to view more of his artwork for yourself. And if you ever get the chance to stop in and view his work in person, I highly recommend it.
