Music is a huge part of New Orleans’ culture, you can find it everywhere and in many different ways. You can hear everything from Jazz, to Blues, to Country in a few select spots, and even some rock and roll! Music in New Orleans can be found on the bust street corner, from a couple guys hoping to make a name with a set of drums and a guitar. It can be found coming from a store front where a young man is sitting playing a five gallon bucket hoping not to make a name, but a couple bucks. It can be found in the form of words also. The homeless woman singing Amazing Grace, the man in the square rapping for money. They also have karaoke bars everywhere. The music coming from here was to say the least, unique. The clubs that have the actual bands were very impressive though. Mike Fulton and Dave Ruffner were my favorite band. We had the opportunity to hear them playing at a European Jazz club called Fritzel’s. I attached a few videos of them playing below! We heard several bands that were considered “jazz,” but this band is what I was looking for. The music his band played is one of the things I was looking forward to most about this trip. The piano, trumpet, trombone combo was amazing, and I wish I could have sat there for hours listening to the instruments blending unlike I had ever heard before. I have attached videos below so everyone else can enjoy the music as well.
