Farewell, New Orleans

Day 6, January 8th

As we were loading up to leave, we were asked to look back on the trip and pick out a few favorites. There were so many things about this class and trip that I enjoyed, and I learned so much. When trying to narrow down what my favorite part of the class was, I decided it was the friendships I made and the friendships that strengthened this week. Sometimes it can be hard to find a group of people that you can feel comfortable around, but that is exactly what I found this week. From day one, everyone was so nice and even though we are not all majoring in the same thing an even if we are, a lot of people are at different places in their degree – I don’t feel like that stopped us all from becoming great friends. Then there is the favorite part of the trip… that was even harder to narrow down. I would have to say that it was the opportunity to participate in the first place. When we signed up for this trip we were not holding our breath that we would even get a seat, but when we found out that we got to go we were overcome with excitement (I am pretty sure it was what got us through the fall semester in one piece). The people of New Orleans are not like people from around here. Like most places, you have the good and the bad. However, I have never been to a place that is so friendly. No matter where you were going or what you were doing, *most* everyone greeted you with a smile! Now of course there ARE those who were less than friendly, but for the most part everyone was wonderful. Most people also had a story! They moved here post Katrina, they’ve been here their whole life, they came to paint or play music, starved for a while, but are now a renowned artist in one way or another! Everyone is from a different background and the people or New Orleans were very willing to share their’s!

**Sorry to those who didn't make the pictures!! I realized I took a lot of pix of houses and not a lot else... thanks to Robert for taking so many!!**
