Art in New Orleans

Art in New Orleans

Before this trip, I was not a huge art lover. I found art kind of boring and thought it was silly that some paint on a canvas could be so expensive. After this week though, I found a form of art that I loved. Oils painting. Not oil painting with a brush though, oil painting with a pallet knife. I saw a painting of his from the street and instantly fell in love with the style. Even from the window, I could see the 3D texture of the oils coming off the canvas. The pallet knife pulling the oil paints up and off in a wave-like form, giving it the texture and detail that brings it alive. The fact that the art comes to life is what draws me in. The art feels more real and I can almost hear the story it is telling when I stand in front of it. The attached pictures are nothing compared to the real-life thing though. If you ever have the chance to see some of Aaron Reichert’s work in person, I highly recommend it. They tell a story from a very long time ago. The black and white oil paints bring you back to what is simple, no color is needed for Aaron to tell the story he is trying to convey. He uses a very simple thing to paint an intricate picture and tell a very detailed story. I like old things from movies to stories. His artwork takes you back there and it is incredible that something so simple can become so sophisticated. I like that it tells a different story depending on how close you are to it. The further back you are, they tell a bigger, easy to read story. The closer you get, the more abstract it becomes, and the story has to be interpreted more. His work is incredible.
